National Forests are waiving fees this upcoming holiday weekend (14th to 16th). With weather conditions above normal and rain/snow absent from a lot of places around the country, it could be a perfect 3 day weekend to get rid of that cabin fever. However, if you are wanting to do an overnight or weekend trip into the Golden Trout Wilderness it won’t be included in the “fee-free” weekend.
As reported on the Inyo National Forests website, “Fees will remain in effect for overnight camping in any open fee campgrounds and for wilderness permit reservations.” Any trip planned from the Inyo side of the wilderness will have to abide by these rules. On the Sequoia National Forest side permits are still free. Make sure though if you are planning an overnight winter trip you check with each forest regarding road conditions to the trailhead and latest info on winter closures.
