The storm brought in the snow, but not enough to stick around. California Department of Transportation stated the Western Divide Highway and Parker Pass are now re-opened until the next big storm comes through. This will allow users to access the Lloyd Meadow Road a lot easier, which means easier access to two trailheads into the wilderness.
The Lloyd Meadow road gives users access to the Forks of the Kern Trailhead and the Jerkey Meadow Trailhead. Prior to this announcement, people wanting to get to either one of these trailheads had to drive up the Kern Canyon on Highway 178 or go over Greenhorn Summit (Highway 155) and then drive up the Kern Canyon towards Johnsondale. Now people can travel up Highway 190 through Springville or over Parker Pass through California Hot Springs to get to the Lloyd Meadow road.
Enjoy those late fall trips into the wilderness. Weather is looking clear for the next week, but as we all know, this time of year things can change rather quickly. Make sure to plan accordingly and be safe!
