On the Sequoia National Forest, the Western Divide Highway and Parker Pass is now open. This will allow easier access for those living or travelling in the San Joaquin Valley near Porterville to get to the Lloyd Meadow Road.
The North Road, Sherman Pass, Mineral King, and Horseshoe Meadow roads are still closed. These are the last remaining roads to directly access the other parts of the Golden Trout Wilderness. With the weather continuing to get warmer, expect more roads to open as crews clean them up.
The North Road, on the Sequoia National Forest side, is still closed due to snow drifts that remains in the shade all year long. Air temps are the only way to melt the snow since no direct sunlight hits these areas. According to Forest Service personnel, as soon as they melt away, the road can be cleaned and cleared. Then once the road is determined to be safe for the public, it will be opened.
