The last road providing access into the Golden Trout Wilderness opens soon. According to the Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Park website, the Mineral King road will open mid week on May 22, 2013. This road provides access to the northern most portion of the Sequoia National Forest managed section of the wilderness. Typical trips including going over Farewell Gap, visiting Bullfrog Lakes, Silver Lake, or trekking over Coyote Pass. Coyote Pass is part of a historical route once used by fellow hikers in the late 1890’s to summit Mt. Whitney!
