Monday’s storm added a good amount of snow in the Southern Sierra Nevada mountains. At 7,000 feet reports of 6 inches of snow covered the forest floor. However, it is already beginning to melt away. The Forest Service has not issued any road closures just yet, so you could still enjoy some nice fall backpacking. However, depending on your entry point, it may require moving through snow. It is also starting to get below freezing around 7,000 feet so plan accordingly. Use the weather section under preparation to get an extended forecast based on elevation.
