For those on the western side of the Golden Trout Wilderness, prepare for some additional road openings!
- North Road (21S50) to Clicks Creek Trailhead #1 is now open. A down tree blocks access to the Summit Trailhead and remains closed until removed. The tree is down about 1 to 1.5 miles short of the wilderness boundary.
- Clicks Creek Trailhead #2 is open. This is not a commonly used route, but can save users over a mile of hiking. Simply take FS road 21S50 (North Road) for 4.5 miles to the Y and pavement ends. Proceed straight onto 20S79 (towards Golden Trout Wilderness Pack station). Drive another 2 miles and road comes to another “Y”. Do not follow the sign to the pack station but continue straight onto 20S53. Follow grey signs saying “Clicks Trailhead” which you’ll make a left onto FS road 20S64. Then after a few minutes of driving take a right onto FS road 20S64B to the trailhead.
- Mountain Home State Forest and Balch Park open to the public on 5/1/2015 at 8 AM. Users can access the Long Meadow Trail to Summit Lake and explore the western most portion of the Golden Trout Wilderness.
For those on the eastern side of the Golden Trout Wilderness, Horseshoe Meadow Road is now open! Users can access a popular entry point starting at Horseshoe Meadow Campground. Enjoy!
The only road still closed at this time is access from Mineral King. Projected opening date is May 20, 2015.
