Although not in the Golden Trout Wilderness, there is one nearby. If you are planning to hike around the Sequoia National Forest side of the wilderness this weekend, continue reading for more information.
The North Fire is near the old Jacobsen Trail near Wishon Campground. Here is what InciWeb reports:
Last night the “North Fire” was discovered in a lightning-struck tree northeast of Wishon Campground on the Western Divide Ranger District in Giant Sequoia National Monument, Sequoia National Forest. As of this morning, the Fire is approximately an acre in size.
At this time, two ten-person hand crews, helicopter crew, and air attack are taking action to fully suppress the fire. Firefighter and public safety are the Forest Service’s number one consideration in all wildland fire management decisions.
In the past few weeks, numerous lightning strikes were recorded over the local mountains and are expected to continue. Fire personnel will continue to engage wildfires in ways that reduce risk to firefighter and public safety.
If you are heading out into the wilderness this weekend, specifically on the Summit Trail, you may want to check in on the status of the wildfire. Contact information regarding the North Fire can be found on the InciWeb page.
