The Cabin Fire is located in the Golden Trout Wilderness in the Sequoia National Forest. For the week of August 10 through August 14, crews will continue to patrol and monitor for hot areas. Areas that pose a threat to the line will be extinguished. Firefighters have completed the needed fireline utilizing Minimum Impact Suppression Tactics (MIST). The northern portion of the perimeter uses the Lion Fire (2011) as the confinement line. No active ground suppression is needed along this portion of the perimeter due to sparse fuels.
Firefighters used natural barriers such as rock outcroppings, open areas of sparse fuels, and water courses where available to confine the fire. These activities are consistent with the direction provided in the Wilderness Act of 1964. All contingency planning in nearby communities with cooperative agencies is completed.
A local Incident Management Type 3 Team (Villa) is assuming command of the fire on August 10th at 6 pm.
Sequoia National Forest Closure: The western portion of the Golden Trout Wilderness west of Trail 33E01 is closed but Trail 33E01 is open from Lewis Camp to Kern Canyon Station. A map of the closure area can be found on the Sequoia National Forest website http://www.fs.usda.gov/sequoia
