Bear Creek and Balch Park roads provide access to Mountain Home State Forest and Balch Park. More importantly these roads are the main access points to the western most portion of the Golden Trout Wilderness. Typical trail accessed by these roads are the Long Meadow Trail (31E15) at Shake Camp and the Griswold Trail (31E18) at Moses Gulch. These trails are popular routes for Summit Lake, Maggie Lakes, and the Summit Trail. These roads are now closed for the season on the Sequoia National Forest side of the wilderness. Users will have to wait till the spring to access these trails by vehicle.
Sherman Pass, which is a popular route to access the Jordan Hot Springs on the Inyo side, is now closed for the season. Reports from the Kernville Forest Service office stated there was about 2 to 3 feet of snow at the pass (9,200 feet). If we have a normal year, this road will not be open again till sometime in May.
