Wildfire: Jacobsen Fire Closes Trails

If you have been wondering what trails would be close as a result of the Jacobsen Fire, there is no need to wait any longer. A Forest Closure has been released for the following system trails within the Golden Trout Wilderness. The trail closures seem similar to last year’s Cabin Fire trail closures.

GIANT SEQUOIA NATIONAL MONUMENT
WESTERN DIVIDE RANGER DISTRICT

JACOBSON FIRE AREA CLOSURE

Pursuant to 16 USC 551 and 36 CFR 261.50(a) and (b), and to provide for public safety, the following acts are prohibited within the Western Divide Ranger District of the Sequoia National Forest. This Order is effective from October 24, 2016, until the Jacobson Fire is declared out.

1. Going into or being upon the Jacobson Fire Closure Area. The Jacobson Fire Closure Area starts at the intersection of Coyote Lakes Trail (Forest Trail No. 32E05) and the Golden Trout Wilderness boundary in Section 36, Township 18 South, Range 32 East, Mount Diablo Base and Meridian, then continues south along the Coyote Lakes Trail to its intersection with the Deep Creek Trail (Forest Trail No. 32E06) in Section 14, T. 19 S., R. 32 E. MDB&M, then continues south along the of Deep Creek Trail to its intersection with the Lion Meadow Trail (Forest Trail No. 32E02) in Section 1, T. 20 S., R. 32 E., MDB&M, then continues southeast along the Lion Meadow Trail to its intersection with the Willow Cutoff Trail (Forest Trail No. 33E14) in Section 6, T. 20 S., R. 33 E., MDB&M, then continues southwest along the Willow Cutoff Trail to its intersection with the Lewis Camp Trail (Forest Trail No. 33E01) in Section 12, T. 20 S., R. 32 E., MDB&M, then continues west along the Lewis Camp Trail to its intersection with the Golden Trout Wilderness boundary in Section 15, T. 20 S., R. 32 E., MDB&M, then continues northwest along the Golden Trout Wilderness boundary to its intersection with the Summit Trail (Forest Trail No. 31E14) in Section 1, T. 20 S., R. 31 E., MDB&M, then continues northwest along the Summit Trail to its intersection with the Sequoia National Forest boundary in Section 32, T. 18 S., R. 31 E., MDB&M, then continues along the Sequoia National Forest boundary to its intersection with the Quinn Trail (Forest Trail No. 31E13) in Section 26, T. 18 S., R. 31 E., MDB&M, then continues northeast along the south side of the Quinn Trail to its intersection with Little Kern Trail (Forest Trail No. 31E12) in Section 24, T. 18 S., R. 31 E., MDB&M, then continues east along the south side of the Little Kern Trail to its intersection with the Lion Meadow Trail (Forest Trail No. 32E02) in Section 29, T. 18 S., R. 32 E., MDB&M, then continues north along the east side of the Lion Meadow Trail to its intersection with Farewell Gap Trail (Forest Trail No. 31E10), in Section 18, T. 18 S., R. 32 E., MDB&M, then continues southeast along the south side of Farewell Gap Trail to its intersection with the Sequoia National Forest boundary in Section 27, T. 18 S., R. 32 E., MDB&M, then continues southeast along the Sequoia National Forest boundary back to the starting point, as shown on the attached map. 36 CFR 261.53(e).

2. Being on any National Forest System trail within the Jacobson Fire Closure Area, as shown on the attached map. 36 CFR 261.55(a).

Pursuant to 36 CFR 261.50(e), the following persons are exempt from this Order:

1. Any Federal, State or local officer, or member of an organized rescue or fire fighting force in the performance of an official duty.

2. Persons with a permit from the Forest Service specifically authorizing the otherwise prohibited act or omission.

These prohibitions are in addition to the general prohibitions in 36 CFR Part 261, Subpart A.

A violation of these prohibitions is punishable by a fine of not more than $5,000 for an individual or $10,000 for an organization, or imprisonment for not more than six months, or both.
