A trip into the Golden Trout Wilderness by Dan Hall reports on loop from Jerkey Meadow Trailhead. Included is a link of photos he took from his trip. Here is what he found while on his journey into the wilderness.

Jerky Trailhead to Fish Creek
The first blowdown is a sixteen inch diameter one a few hundred feet from Jerky Trailhead; hikers and stock are getting by it without significant problems or environmental damage. The second one is a twelve incher about a half mile before Fish Creek; hikers and stock are getting by it without significant problems or environmental damage.

Fish Creek to Grey Meadow
There are three blowdowns, ranging from eight to fourteen inches in diameter, spread about evenly from the creek to the meadow. Hikers and stock are getting by them without significant problems, but the first one is resulting in some environmental damage because they are going around the lower side of it and promoting erosion below the trail.

Grey Meadow to Trail Junction for Round Meadow
There are ten blowdowns, ranging from three to sixteen inches in diameter, spread about evenly through this section. Hikers and stock are getting by them without significant problems or environmental damage.

Trail Junction for Round Meadow to Fish Creek
There are ten blowdowns, ranging from six to thirty inches in diameter, spread mostly in the first/northern half of this section. Hikers and stock are getting by them without significant problems or environmental damage.

Please note that there is also, technically speaking, another large, complicated, thirty plus inch blowdown across the trail in this section. I am not counting it, however, because hikers and stock have obviously been going around it for several years without any problems. I did not provide a photo of it and there is no reason to now expend the resources to saw it out.

Fish Creek to Little Kern Bridge
There is one four inch tree hanging over the trail that hikers and stock are getting by without significant problems or environmental damage. It will be very easy to saw, and it looks as though I could have moved it, but I tried and it kept swinging back over the trail.

Thanks Dan for the information. It will be a big help to many users heading out in that same direction. For those reading this report, if you have or will go out into the wilderness this season please consider sending in a report. Many people benefit from reading it and plan their trips accordingly. Thanks!
