The Golden Trout Wilderness is managed between two different National Forests; Inyo and Sequoia. The Inyo National Forest manages the land east of the Kern River and the Sequoia National Forest manages the west of the Kern River.
West of the Kern River, the Golden Trout Wilderness elevation ranges more dramatically then the eastern side. Lower elevations of 4600 feet near Forks of The Kern to highs of 12,000+ feet near Florence and Vandever Peaks. Wanting to walk the Kern River Canyon? Most of the trails are on the Sequoia side of the Wilderness.
